I am going to count backwards from 5 and when I get to 1 you will read my blog….. 5…4…3…2…1…

Ok, so I am sure by now you are wondering what that was about huh? Well let’s just say that we had a lot of fun on campus this week with a Hypnotist! Kevin Hurley world famous Hypnotist came to St. John Fisher College this past Tuesday. Have you ever thought that hypnosis is a fluke? Well I sure did until this past Tuesday. Hurley took random members of the audience and used them as his clients. I suppose I knew it was going to be funny as soon as he began the hypnosis process, and students were already on the ground in a trance within a few minutes. Watching people get up on stage eagerly awaiting the process was a hit to start with. Some look frightened, some looked as though it was Christmas morning in November. As the process started Hurley made the students believe that they were in a limousine with no A/C on a startling 120 degree day. It was so funny watching these people begin to rip off their sweat shirts and actually sweat. Although this was funny enough the real fun did not start until he had a male “give birth” have you ever thought what it would be like to see a male imitate giving birth? Well let me tell you something… HILARIOUS!! If you have never seen or experienced the process of hypnosis try and see it at least once. I think if he were to come back next year I will personally volunteer myself. So if you attend Fisher next fall look for the Hypnotist event and maybe you’ll see me do a crazy act on stage.

Ok so I don’t think I will dehypnotize you just yet. Why? Because! Because, you need to continue reading my blogs for the weeks to come! Mwahahaha. Hope you enjoy the blogs, see you all next week! :D

Howdy!

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween! This week was actually a pretty low-key week for once, meaning that I did not have any major tests or projects due. It was nice and relaxing I actually got to watch t.v. for a little while :) Next week is not going to be like that though, I have two huge tests on Thursday so I’ll be studying for them this weekend. I really am just procrastinating on studying though.

Right now I am blogging from home because my Mom and Dad asked me to come home for dinner tonight! It’s always nice to be home for a day or two to see my family and sleep in my own bed! I don’t remember the last time I came home so I am happy about it. I’m not staying here for the entire weekend though because tomorrow I am being filmed for part of a Fisher commercial that is being made to air. I think that should be exciting! They sent out an e-mail, I went and got my picture taken, and then got a call back that said I was chosen to be in it! Cool right?! I’m not sure what I’ll be saying/doing yet but I’ll be sure to let you know. Fisher always has fun little opportunities like this for students so be ready to take part in them!!!!

Talk to ya next week!

Amanda

P.S. Here is a picture of our Minion costumes in Keough Hall (our residence hall).

This week was a big week for the Diversity Office! It was Four Freedoms Week and many different events were housed on campus ranging from speakers, to videos, to awareness trainings. This week was a great opportunity for freshmen to attend an event for their freshmen seminar class. I’m planning on attending an event tonight! Also, I’m sure everyone has seen the t-shirts hanging all around the LeChase Commons quad area. They are EVERYWHERE so it would be hard to miss them. Each shirt had tips, statistics, or memories regarding abuse and violence. Although we as humans may try to avoid these tough subjects it would be really great to take a minute out of your day and stop and look at these shirts. Although, I have been lucky enough to not have been physically or sexually abused, it shows how prevalent this issue is in our society today. It also shows that you are definitely NOT alone. There are so many resources to ask for help and so many people that can empathize and help you heal. Never let your mind trick you into thinking you are alone! Anyone can talk to a Mental Health Counselor in the Wellness Center and outside of Fisher there are different outlets for assistance!

On a lighter note, I hope everyone had a great Halloween! I went trick or treating as a nerd! I must say I rocked the whole nerd look. You are never too old to do silly, childish things! Never forget that.

Until next time!

Hey everyone!

I can't believe how quickly this semester is flying. So I'm looking at the calendar today and realized there are only 3 weeks until Thanksgiving. On Tuesday night in our SWAV meeting (students with a vision) we ended up making cards for the elderly in the Friendly Home. It was so fun because we actually used finger paints. I mean come on, when is the last time you got to use finger paints? Sometime in the next couple of weeks we are going to deliver the cards and it will be so great to see the happy faces of those getting the cards. So this is the card I made:

I know my artistic abilities are just astounding. But hey, I mean I tried and I have to say the Turkey on the front is pretty cute.

Anyways, enough about my artistic endeavors haha. Today, we had a Pre-Law meeting and we had Tony Laduca come in as our guest speaker. It was interesting to hear him speak because we haven't heard as much about the civil end of being a lawyer. The more I hear speakers, I realize the more choices I have after law school. It's so scary to think in less than six years I'll be out of law school and I'll actually have to make a solid decision on what kind of law I want to go into. While this is scary, it is so exciting. I'm nervous but so excited to be building up to that point in my life. I'll tell you something though, without all the positive reinforcement from alumni at Fisher who did exactly what I am doing, I know I would be a lot more nervous. Thankful for them, I know it can and will be done :)

Anyways, it's time to do some work and go to class...so until next time....

*Kate :)

Midterms are over but that doesn’t mean it is time to relax just yet! I am currently getting everything together to go meet with my advisor about next semester. Each student receives an Advisor within their major to help keep you on track, answer your questions and give you advice about which classes you should take.

After my meeting with my Advisor I have a group meeting with my Sport Management group. Our project is all about developing a promotion for the Rochester Red Wings (baseball team). Last week we got an opportunity to meet with the General Manager of the team which was really cool. He also brought in two Fisher alums that currently work in the team’s front office. Ironically enough the alumni were in the same Sport Marketing class and did the same case study 4 years ago and now they are working for the team. The best part about the project is that the Red Wings are going to pick the best promotion and implement it this summer at a game. Talk about an excellent resume’ builder!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Hey Everyone!

This week has been so busy but there has been a lot of fun things going on, too. One of the biggest things I've been thinking about this week is course registration for next semester. It's kind of exciting that now that it's almost spring semester I get to pick my own classes and professors. Coming into college in the fall I did not get to pick, but that also made things less stressful as I didn't know what to expect. Now that I've been here for a few months I have a good idea of what I want to take. The department meetings for each major were really helpful too because the professors in that department told everyone of us which classes we have to take to stay in good shape for the major. Being a chem major, next semester I'm going to take chem, calc II, my research writing class that's mandatory for all freshman and and elective class that will fill a core requirement needed to graduate. My freshman seminar class is really helpful in this part of registering for classes because everyone got a packet of the options for research writing. There are so many and a lot of them seem really interesting. There are science based ones, children's lit, modern evil, and Irish lit just to name a few!

The exciting things coming up on campus are Pajama Palooza and a trip to Color Me Mine. The Pajama Palooza is a party in campus mainstage for the entire campus where everyone will wear their pajamas and get together as a reminder to set clocks back for day light savings. I heard there will be movies and games and lots of food! There is also a prize for the person with the best pajamas so people are going all out. The RSA trip to Color Me Mine in Pittsford Plaza is already full because of all the interest. Luckily, I signed up early enough to get on the list. I've never been there but everyone tells me its the place to go because of my interest in pottery. When going there we will get to paint whatever type of pottery we want to and let is glaze so it can be used.

Finally, Halloween was great here. There was a Harry Potter 7 Part 2 showing that many people went to, pumpkin carving and painting, trick or treating around campus, and Halloween dinner.

All of the staff for Lackmann Services dressed up for when they served us food. The food was delicious and had spooky names to add to the chilling effect. The best part was the themes desserts, monster cupcakes and Frankenstein brownies. I can't wait to have another great week at Fisher!

Talk to you next week,

Samantha

Who says 18 is too old to go trick or treating?

Ever seen the movie, A Christmas Story? Well, apparently dressing up in a pink bunny costume like Ralphie from the movie is not enough evidence to convince some people that I am young enough to go trick or treating on Halloween night. Halloween is still all about getting free candy from surrounding neighborhoods for this college girl and many of the other residents that live on my floor. I still enjoy sitting on Santa’s lap at Christmas, so why can’t I still enjoy running to as many houses as I can on Halloween to collect enough candy to make me sick? Honestly, I do it anyways no matter what the answers to those questions are. Some people though just might not see you trick or treating as a good thing and instead deny you candy all together. Yes, I am still shocked that this could happen to a girl wearing a pink bunny costume. I have enough candy in my dorm room to last me until summer, so I am one happy college student no matter what else happened that night.

St. John Fisher also put on a lot of great events to put people in the Halloween mood. Because I am always in the Halloween mood, the event I attended made me that much more excited for the big day. How cool is this? The college had Dustin Pari from Ghost Hunters International come to speak to students about his own paranormal experience and facts that could help me with my own aspirations to be a ghost hunter extraordinaire. Even if I cry during scary movies, of course I can still see myself all alone in the dark waiting to be contacted by spirits. After his fascinating discussion about different entities, fake vs. real, and his own life experiences on the show some students, the lucky chosen few, got to go on a ghost hunt at St. John Fisher. There is a story that Kearney Hall is haunted, and Dustin Pari, with his gear rearing to go, wanted to give us the opportunity to explore this legend with him. Sadly, no evidence was found to our knowledge so the myth stays as a myth. However, what a cool experience for someone so fascinated with Halloween and spirits! I am talking about myself indeed, because it was one of the most insightful lessons on paranormal activity….no pun intended.

Until next time….Have a great day!

Hi everyone!

This past week has been pretty busy and I think this week finally things look to be slowing down a bit, thank goodness! I’ve officially finished all of my midterms and now I’m just waiting on the grades for the tests. This past weekend, my friends and I dressed up for Halloween and had a lot of fun.

As part of a Service Learning Class I am in, I volunteer at the Sojourner House in downtown Rochester and for Halloween we had a surprise party for the kids. It was a ton of fun. If you have the opportunity to take a service learning class I would definitely recommend it!

I’m very excited for my internship tomorrow because we are meeting with a DiBella’s to talk about fundraising for Make-A-Wish! I really love being able to have an internship while at Fisher because it is helping me to see what I like and where I want my career to take me.

Have a great week!

Hello Everybody!

I hope you all got a chance to come check out Fisher this past weekend at our first Open House of the year! If you didn’t, don’t worry there will be plenty more opportunities. It is crazy to think that this semester is coming to a close, and this week we will be receiving our PINs to register for classes for next semester….AHHHHHH!!! Registration is super easy here at Fisher, however everyone is a little on edge making sure their schedule is perfect for the upcoming semester. As a Freshman you will have a ton of guidance on choosing classes and making sure you are picking the right things. Once you are an upperclassman you get a PIN number based on how many credits you have and that PIN will correspond with a time and date during registration week. The more credits you have the better your registration time will be, this means make sure you transfer in those AP, IB, and Distance Learning credits because they will help you here! Once your time slot opens up you just jump online to Fish’ R Net (which is your life here at Fisher… you will learn all about it) and register! It doesn’t get much easier than that! I will give you an update on what classes I am choosing and let you know if I got a good registration time or not=)

Talk to you all soon!!!

Maris

Hi guys!! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend. I wanted to thank all of you who came to the Open House, I hope all the information you received was helpful! During the Open House I got a good amount of questions about sports on campus so I wanted to give you guys some information about that. We have a bunch of different Division Three varsity sports here at Fisher and we also have many JV sports to accommodate all students. We just opened Polisseni Stadium and with that Fisher got 7 new varsity sports. I would recommend that if you would like to play a varsity sport to contact the coach as soon as possible so you can plan a meeting with them and get all of the information you might need to help make your college search a little bit easier. Playing a varsity sport does take up a lot of time so, for the students who would like to play a sport without the time commitment, they can play intramural or club sports. One of the things that I really like about Fisher is that if you would like to start your own club on campus all you have to do is show that a certain amount of students are interested and you can start your own club. With that being said, if you want to start an intramural sport that Fisher does not have then as long as you find other people that are interested then that will be able to happen. As a Freshman I would suggest getting involved in some type of club or organization on campus. It is a great way to meet new people, it's fun and it looks good on a resume. If you have any questions just go to the Fisher Athletics website and you can find all of the information you need there. I hope you have a great week! Happy Halloween!!

Sunday, October 30

Happy Halloween everyone! I know Halloween isn’t officially until tomorrow but Fisher has definitely been in the spirit over the weekend. It’s sad that now that we’re old we don’t get to go trick or treating and get free candy, but the RAs in my Residence Hall are doing reverse trick or treating to fix that. They’re going around to each room and giving out candy as opposed to us going to them. I’m really excited because I never can get enough candy!

My roommate and I started watching scary movies at the beginning of the week. I love scary movies but he hates them. It’s kind of a double win for me. I get to enjoy a movie, and then I get to laugh at him while he freaks out about the movie for a few days. The first movie we watched was called The Alphabet Killer. It is about a serial killer that killed people who had the same first and last initial for their name and then dumped them in a town that started with that initial. The movie was good but what was really cool was that the whole movie took place in the greater Rochester area. It’s based on a true story of a serial killer in Rochester during the ‘70s. Now don’t worry, Rochester isn’t a serial killer hot spot, I’ve never heard of any Rochester serial killers other than this one. He only killed 3 people too. So I think it’s safe to say that there isn’t anything to worry about, but don’t tell my roommate that! I’ve started calling him a new name so that his first and last names start with the same letter so that he freaks out more. It’s been awesome haha

I hope you all have a great Halloween!

- Matt
[From yesterday]

It’s Open House day (October 29th), on campus and it’s so exciting to see all of the prospective students thinking about attending Fisher. I wish the weather was a bit sunnier, but the Ambassadors are energetic and ready for the busy day! For those of you who may not know, Open House gives High School students the opportunity to explore Fisher with tours and information sessions. It’s definitely a great chance to come and see the school; if you haven’t already, think about it! :) The campus looks beautiful in Fall, with the changing leaves and colorful flowers.

HALLOWEEN is also upon us and Fisher is full of activities to help us celebrate. I just carved a pumpkin in Mainstage last night and the last Harry Potter movie is playing tonight too. Personally, my favorite part of Halloween is seeing everyone’s costumes, especially the really unique ones… My friends and I decided to dress up as ZOMBIES this year & we had so much fun buying supplies and making our costumes; we can’t wait to show them off!

There are two big home games today, football and Men’s soccer. I can hear the warm-up music from the stadium in my room, which always makes me excited to support the players… The football team is playing Utica tonight and well on their way to a Championship (my fingers are crossed!). Both teams have had great seasons and are making Fisher proud!

Until next time,

Brittany
